About this Destination

Replete with natural forest and wildlife reserves, Tholpetty is a part of Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary. Around 20 kilometres away from Mananthavady, this region is known for its abundant flora and fauna. It is the home to several species of wild animals and birds including leopards, bear, monkeys, elephants, tigers, langurs and more. The night safari is one of the main highlights of Tholpetty. It offers ample opportunities to the visitors to spot the wild creatures in their natural habitat. The watchtower is another attraction where a herd of elephants, bison and other wild animals can be spotted drinking water from the lake. A major part of the forest is covered in Eucalyptus, Teak and Silver Oak trees. With jungle safari taking place twice a day, the sighting of wild animals has been reported at Tholpetty. It is indeed a must-visit destination for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers across the country.It is also famous for its giant squirrels, mouse deer, spotted deer, langurs, tigers, panthers and leopards. History tells that Malabar King Pazhassi Raja fought his battles with the Colonial British in Tholpetty. Popular places in and around Tholpetty include the Nagarhole Wildlife Sanctuary, Thirunelly Temple, Kuruva Dweep, Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary and the Papanasini river. The Papanashini river flows down through this town and makes the city look even more picturesque.
