Thiruvavur, also written as Tiruvarur, is a municipality town nestled in Tamil Nadu, India. Famed for its antiquity, the town has been ruled by multiple groups at varied times including Medieval Cholas, Later Cholas, Vijayanagar Empire, Later Pandyas, Marathas, and the British.A charming temple town situated at the tip of three rivers: Valaiyar, Sukumar, and Odambokki Rivers, Thiruvarur is well-known for its popular point of interest, one of the vast temple complexes in India, Thyagaraja temple. With agriculture holding its primary root, and an abundance of water flow, Thiravarur is a place immersed in the peaceful atmosphere of temple tanks, lakes, and multiple rivers, and lush greenery. Administrative headquarters of Tiruvarur Taluk and Tiruvarur district, the town is renowned for being Chola empire’s one of the five traditional capitals, where Kulothunga from Chola I acquired Thiruvarur as his capital. Agriculture being the primary occupation in the town, Thiruvarur is a part of the Cauvery delta region, with Odambokki river flowing through the town’s centre. Thiruvaru rose into popularity because of Thyagaraja Temple and its chariot festival held every April.
